  • Establishment of a scholarship fund  to help the higher studies of  the needy of present day. . The initial deposit of Rs. 50,000/=  for this fund was donated by Kalasuri Bandula Fernando, our erstwhile teacher and at the same time past pupil Mr. M.S. Siripala, then a director of the Central Bank also contributed Rs. 50000/=. The donation of    Rs. 100,000/= by Dr. Piyasiri Wickramasekera our internationally famed past pupil, presently the Head of the Emigration Department of I.L.O. in Geneva, was a great example showing how to pay gratitude to anybody’s Alma mater.  Other past pupils abroad also can emulate this noble act, to pay respect to their mother school.  The establishment of this scholarship project was done with the noble objective of helping the village lads and lasses, our brothers and sisters to further their education

  • The successful staging of the “Kurahanmala” Arts Exhibition in Colombo on the 5th & 6th of November. This was a great triumph of our association.  For the first time in its history a rural school farthest away from Colombo was able to establish its mark by having an art exhibition at the Kala Bawana in Colombo , the centre for the arts, where we exhibited 100 of students art creations and won the appreciation of artists in Colombo.

  • The present President His Excellency  Mahinda Rajapakse, then the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, who opened the exhibition, appreciated our efforts and  gave away the prices for the winners of the exhibition. I am proud to say he also is a son of the Weeraketiya Village
